Kid makes homeless care packs

A YOUNG boy wants everyone to know they are cared for after coming across a homeless man on Toowoomba streets.

Two weeks ago Adrian Young was out with his mum Jen Young when he saw a homeless man in the CBD.

Instead of ignoring him, the pair gave him some money.

“What I really wanted to do was buy him a house to live in,” Adrian said.

“I asked my mum lots of questions and learnt that he wasn’t the only person sleeping on the streets at night in the freezing cold.

“Families and even kids are also homeless. I was shocked and so sad.

“I didn’t know any of this before I saw this man.”

Adrian and Mrs Young came up with another way to help the homeless.

They made 50 care packs with warm clothes, toiletries and food.

Adrian used his own money from his footy tipping winnings to help out.

On Wednesday they delivered the packs to the Basement Soup Kitchen and Adrian hopes to volunteer at the centre on the school holidays.

“I’m a lucky kid to have the life I have and I want to try and make everyone’s life as good as mine,” he said.

Adrian has had so many people reach out to help that Mrs Young has started a GoFundMe page to raise funds and make more care packs.
