Nozi chasing good start
Clifford Park set for new racing year
Jockey Nozi Tomizawa ended the last Clifford Park racing season on a frustrating note and will be looking to kick the new year off in positive fashion on tomorrow’s seven-race card.
Tomizawa rode two winners at Toowoomba’s season-ending meeting on July 22 but was pipped for premiership honours by Beau Appo who snatched victory with a protest-win aboard Rooster Hunter in the final race.
Tomorrow, Tomizawa will be chasing a flying season start with six early rides including favoured pair Well Sighted and Bottarga for Toowoomba trainer Tony Sears.
Well Sighted will be looking to break his trot of minor placings when he steps out in the Jockey Celebration Day Class 3 Handicap (1200m).
Bottarga will be searching for his way back to the winner’s list in the Queensland Electrical Solutions Class 2 Handicap
(1050m) after a last-start second behind Captain Leo in a Class 3 Plate (1050m) two weeks ago.
Tomizawa’s other rides includes last-start maiden winner Mustarrid for trainer Ben Currie in the Third Time Lucky Leon Wise Class 1 Handicap (1300m).
Earlier Clifford Park will come to a standstill to celebrate National Jockey Celebration Day.
About 4.30pm, Toowoomba Turf Club committee members, staff, jockeys and Queensland Racing and Integrity Commission representatives will unite at
the winning post to pay their respects to fallen and injured jockeys.
Club chairman Kent Woodford said this year’s event was particularly personal for Clifford Park. Injured Toowoomba track-work riders Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm are this year’s JCD Ambassadors.
“Ben will join us on the track this year, which is very special,” Woodford said.
“The National Jockeys Trust is an incredible support to the industry and we must take time to honour their work.”
