Red Lion eyes run to women’s finals

Red Lion is determined to turn grand final disappointment into a Toowoomba Hockey women’s premiership run.

With three games to go before finals start, the club is setting its sights back on the title race after falling to Wests Ipswich in the Inter-City grand final last month.

“It’s always sad but for us we respect that they are one of the best teams out there,” Red Lion’s Ainsley Clanchy said.

Like many teams, Red Lion’s playing squad has been ravaged by players away on representative duties.

Clanchy herself is set for a stint with the Australian Country women’s team and said keeping a consistent side would hold them in good stead for the end of season run-in.

“Us girls have had a pretty good season so far and I am really eager to get into it because we’ve had two (Queensland) masters players away and now they’re back but I have to go away again soon,” she said.

“We’re third on the ladder and if we win and other teams lose it could be that

we jump up the ladder because a lot of us are only separated by two points.

“It has been a pretty tight comp this year.”

Red Lion will continue its women’s campaign tonight at Clyde Park when it plays

Norths.

Newtown takes on Past High in the other women’s game of the round.

Meanwhile in men’s top grade action, Red Lion faces Past High High and Newtown meets Rangeville.
