PROVING country girls can conquer anything, business owner Kara Lauder has now been nominated for a national award.

The Kader Boot Co managing director runs her business from Paraburdoo, a small town in the Pilbara of Western Australia, and will this year travel to Sydney for the ritzy AusMumpreneur Awards held at the end of this month.

In January this year the Rural Weekly reported that Kara took her boots all the way to Hollywood for a celebrity gifting suite event that was held during Oscar time.

The western boot designer has now welcomed country singer Kirsty Lee Akers on board as a brand ambassador.

Through all of these achievements she has balanced her work with raising her daughter, Ally.

With bub number two only a few months away, Kara talked through how she felt to see her hard work recognised.

“Being chosen as a finalist for an AusMumprenuer award is an amazing honour,” she said.

“I’m up against some inspiring women in great businesses so just to be selected as a finalist among them is a privilege.” Business and motherhood works hand in hand for Kara. “Being a mum in business, or mumpreneur, as it’s often referred to, is wonderful,” she said.

“It’s hard some days as you still have a child to look after on top of running a business, but being home every day with my daughter, watching her grow, makes it worth every minute.

“A lot of my business is done early in the morning and late at night, as I deal with a Mexican manufacturer for my boots.

“This certainly helps as I’m free for the most part of the day to play with my daughter.”

Kara gains some of the inspiration for her boot designs from the Australian landscape.

The outback flare was a hit with stars at the gifting suites honouring the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

“I am still in contact with many of the celebrities who visited our stall and they are keenly awaiting the adult versions of the kids boots they were gifted on the day,” she said.

“We have had people ask why we would give away boots to people with a lot of money. Well, it’s all marketing that in any other situation would cost a lot more than just a pair of boots if they end up wearing them in front of thousands of people live in concert, or millions watching a movie on the big screen.”

Kara has also been nominated for a Pilbara Business Excellence Award, which is run by the Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
