Leah’s golfing dreams lead her back to Toowoomba

GOLF: The golfing stars have aligned for former Toowoomba professional Leah Hart.

After leaving the city to chase her dreams on the world golf stage, Hart has returned to where it all began to become the new head golf professional at Toowoomba Golf Club.

Hart’s appointment places her in a select band of females — which includes another former fellow Toowoomba player Alison Munt — working as head professionals at clubs in Australia.

Hart’s return to the club where her golf passion grew as a junior member almost 20 years ago comes after a collegiate career in the US and five years spent on the European Tour.

Most recently she worked as a coach in Brisbane where she founded Girls Golf Australia, a not-for-profit organisation introducing girls to golf.

Hart describes her decision to apply for her new role as a “no-brainer” as she reconnects with the Garden City where she still has family members living.

“There are not many traditional PGA head professional roles left in Australia,” Hart said.

“But Toowoomba is one of them and I saw this as a great opportunity for me.

“This role would have been appealing to me anywhere but when the opportunity popped up to apply for this position it was simply a no-brainer to throw my hat into the ring.

“I hope to make it long term as I try to help grow golf in Toowoomba.

“I have a vision of how I want to try and take the club forward.

“I aim to have a strong focus on women and juniors as well as men and this is something I’m very much looking forward to.”
