Thunder looking to shine in home finale

FOOTBALL: The South-West Thunder have a final chance against Moreton Bay today to show their home supporters that the future is bright.

The club’s final National Premier Leagues Queensland home game of the season comes with added incentive for the Thunder to reassure its fan base that it has what it takes to handle the pressure of relegation next season, and a win against Moreton Bay will go a long way to doing that.

Their record at home has not been as impressive as they would have liked, but that has not stopped the Thunder faithful from turning out on chilly nights in the Garden City.

The Thunder will finish in the bottom half of the season knowing that even if they took home the wooden spoon they would be safe in the NPLQ next year - but that won’t be the case in 2018.

The senior team will rely on its own results, as well as that of the under 20s and under 18s, with the accumulated points tallied deciding where the club falls on the ladder next year.

The relative safety net of finishing towards the bottom and retaining its place in the top tier of Queensland football will be no more next season, and the best way to prepare for the coming battle to avoid the drop will begin as this season winds down.

The women’s final home game of the season will see them take on Western Pride.
