THE FUTURE OF OUR EARTH

-

The continuing threat of our present way of living on our planet needs to be addressed now for future survival of all its inhabitants. There is only one

Earth – we can’t waste it.

OUR current patterns of consumption are simply not sustainable and are behind many of the environmental problems our planet faces. From air pollution, to waste from demand for oil and food to environmental degradation to climate change and biodiversity loss, the way we live is having an impact on planet Earth.

The need to provide food, fuel, and fibre to current and future residents of planet earth has led to the development of a field of science.

Sustainability Science is an applied science providing the theory and tools that focus on protecting natural environments and creating an ecologically and socially better planet.

Future Earth

Future Earth is an international research and development platform for scientific collaboration focused on long term sustainability solutions for the planet.

Launched in 2015, Future Earth is a 10-year initiative providing opportunities for scientists and other leaders in sustainability to discuss how the world can solve a range of pressing challenges.

Future Earth’s 2025 vision addresses eight key challenges to global sustainability:

Deliver water, energy, and food for all.

Decarbonise socio-economic systems to stabilise the climate.

Safeguard the terrestrial, freshwater and marine natural assets underpinning human well-being.

Build healthy, resilient and productive cities.

Promote sustainable rural futures.

Improve human health. Encourage sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Increase social resilience to future threats.
