A MAN was taken to Toowoomba Hospital with head injuries after an incident outside the BASE Service soup kitchen.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, suffered superficial head injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The incident occurred near the Neil St facility about 12.30pm yesterday.

It is understood the incident involved a number of people and police are seeking the whereabouts of at least one man involved in the scuffle.

BASE Services offers free lunch meals to the city’s homeless and at-risk population each week day.

Nat Spary of BASE Services told The Chronicle the incident occurred near the Neil St centre and police and paramedics were called after a man was injured.

Mr Spary said people’s safety, both staff and clients, were the priority.

“We do everything we can to keep people safe and that’s why we’re looking at setting up CCTV inside the soup kitchen,” Mr Spary said.

“We put people’s safety above everything.”

Investigations are continuing and anyone with information is urged to contact police on Crime Stoppers in 1800 333 000.

We do everything we can to keep people safe and that’s why we’re looking at setting up CCTV inside the soup kitchen.
