40 years flies by for Karyn
KARYN Iseppi enjoys her work at a Toowoomba orthodontist just as much as the day she started, and that was 40 years ago.
“It honestly does not seem that long,” Ms Iseppi said of her job at David Mullins Orthodontist.
She clocked up 40 years in July after joining the business fresh out of high school, aside from a six-month stint at a refrigeration company.
“It was just advertised one day and I was straight out of school,” Ms Iseppi said.
“I decided to apply and I waited an hour-and-a-half for the interview because there was so many patients, and then I got the job.”
Ms Iseppi said being the only orthodontist in town 40 years ago, they had about 70 patients each afternoon come to the practice.
It was owned by Dr Reg Wenck in those days, who died in 1995, but his practice was joined by Dr Ashley Smith in 1989.
Ms Iseppi is the practice manager of the Margaret St orthodontist, despite having quite a different start to her employment.
“Well, one of the girls used to make me clean the toilet with a tooth brush when I first started, the senior nurse then,” she said.
“And I obviously worked my way up from that.”

a workplace to Ms Iseppi.
“I have done it all from toilet cleaning and scrubbing floors to the laboratory and chair side, a bit of everything,” she said.
“I have loved it all, even the toilet cleaning, and I think I am a better person for it.
“It keeps you young working with the kids all the time.”
Ms Iseppi said her favourite thing about the practice, and what had kept her there so long, were the great bosses, her colleagues and the patients.
