Man U serves up second 4-0 lesson

-

FOOTBALL: Manchester United has had its second successive 4-0 win to open the new English Premier League season.

After putting West Ham to the sword in the opening round, the Red Devils this time crushed Swansea with Eric Bailly, Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba (pictured) and Anthony Martial scoring.

Lukaku has three goals for his new club already this season.

Man U had led 1-0 at the break before the floodgates opened in a five-minute period late in the game.

Manager Jose Mourinho said he wasn’t prepared to settle for a 1-0 win.

“There was no need to close the door. Just let the horses run freely,” he said.

“We tried to control the game by keeping the ball and creating chances.”

Swansea was annoyed Pogba was allowed to remain on the field after escaping a second yellow card for a first-half foul when tripping Martin Olsson.

Pogba was a star, heading the ball into the crossbar, before Bailly opened the deadlock just before half-time, then scoring himself to make it 3-0 in the 82nd minute and then setting up Martial two minutes later.

Sadio Mane’s cool second- half finish earned Liverpool a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Stoke City’s new loan signing Jese Rodriguez made an immediate impact by scoring the only goal as his side stunned Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal 1-0.
