MYSTERY SURROUNDS BODY FOUND IN CREEK
POLICE last night were still trying to find out how a woman’s body ended up face down in a Toowoomba creek.
Mystery surrounds the death of the woman who was found by two residents on their morning walk along West Creek in Kearneys Spring yesterday morning.
Toowoomba Police are treating the death as non-suspicious amid a widespread investigation of the area, which included turning over bins, scouring the nearby parkland and door-knocking the neighbourhood around Creedon Dr.
A woman discovered the body while she was out walking with a friend along the creek about 9.30am.
The witness, who was interviewed by police, described the deceased as petite and in her 20s or 30s, having short, dark hair while wearing jeans, a yellow hi-vis jacket and boots.
The witness said she couldn’t see the deceased woman’s arms and thought it was strange they weren’t showing.
Another resident, Gurmukh Thiara, said he noticed strange activity on Sunday night when he left his house to pick up his wife from work about 10.50pm.
Mr Thiara said he noticed a person with a torch in the creek, but when he drove past, the light was turned off.
Police issued a statement at 1pm yesterday confirming the incident, but no further details about the woman’s age or physical description were revealed.
Police crews, including uniformed, plain-clothes and forensics officers, converged on the scene about 10am and stayed for several hours.
Two of Toowoomba’s top officers, Darling Downs Detective Inspector Dave Isherwood and Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker, were also at the scene coordinating the investigation.
The case remains in the hands of the Criminal Investigation Branch.
