LAUREEN Qualischefski was on her way home from work, having clocked off about 2.30am Monday.

From the Stenner St depot behind Coles, the 69-year-old regular walker cut through West Creek bordered by Creedon Dr about 15 minutes later on her way home to Bridge St in Wilsonton.

Detectives suspect Mrs Qualischefski, who was not a good swimmer, drowned in the West Creek waterway sometime around 3am.

The initial investigation suggested to officers there was no foul play involved in her death when her body was found face-down in the water by passers-by about 9.30am Monday.

Darling Downs Detective Inspector Dave Isherwood said the full results of a post mortem were yet to be released but police suspected Mrs Qualischefski drowned.

Two paint marks on the banks of West Creek were the only physical signs of the tragic turn of events of early Monday morning.

Paramedics called to the scene were unable to revive her, and a crime scene and incident command centre set up investigating her death.

Forensic officers examined bins and officers searched the wider park area in Kearneys Spring as part of the initial probe.

Police had said Mrs Qualischefski had suffered no physical signs of trauma when she was discovered.

Detectives had appealed for information from the public who may have seen Mrs Qualischefski in the park area to come forward to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner.
