Misleading

-

KERRY Shine’s comments reported recently (TC, 5/8) concerning his opponent’s electoral office and its opening hours should be seen for what they are. Irrelevant and totally misleading.

Mr Shine would be better using his media opportunities explaining to the electorate why he achieved so little as their representative for 11 years from 2001 to 2012 at a time when both State and Federal governments were his own party colleagues.

He was unable to persuade his own government to invest in the electorate over these years. He is on parliamentary record as asking only three questions over 11 years about the Toowoomba Second Range crossing.

His suggestion that the road be constructed only three lanes wide says volumes about his understanding of important issues.

He did arrange the purchase of land for the Highfields State School in 2009 but only after being shamed into it by the LNP opposition. The land then stood vacant for three years with no plan or funding by Mr Shine or his party.

The saga goes on and has now been duplicated by the present ALP State Government which has been labelled the “do nothing government”.

Trevor Watts as the local LNP member since 2012 has delivered many exceptional projects for the electorate and Toowoomba region. He was a prime mover to have funding approved for the Second Range Crossing giving employment to some 1800 workers. He took the vacant land at Highfields and built the new high school. He arranged for the CBD power upgrade giving certainty of supply to businesses. He enabled the Wilsonton High School to have its new multi-purpose hall and much more.

His record has been one of getting things done, creating employment and investment opportunities in the area along with a caring attitude to those who need a helping hand.

His dedicated office staff deserve well-earned praise for their part in these accomplishments and not comments of an opponent with no real contribution to make. — JEFF EACERSALL, Toowoomba
