Group seeks answers about neglected dogs

- Meghan Harris meghan.harris@thechronicle.com.au

A TOOWOOMBA animal organisation is desperately seeking information on two neglected dogs placed in its care this week.

A woman came across two stray dogs between Toowoomba and Dalby recently and contacted Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld.

She cared for them until organisation founder Jess Otto was able to collect them.

Ms Otto has named the bull-Arabs Bonnie and Clyde.

She said she was shocked at the treatment of the poor animals and was thankful for the woman who picked them up.

“She has carefully and lovingly cared for these babies until now. She cleaned their wounds, fed them small regular meals and kept them safe until we could come to collect,” she said.

“These dogs have no chips, are emaciated and had deep wounds that needed vet attention.

“Their sores are consistent with being locked in small spaces for long periods of time, probably in a dog box.

“The soles of their feet are fairly clean and healthy, meaning they certainly have not been on the run for long at all. These are injuries and body builds consistent with long term neglect.

“We cried as we cleaned them and dressed their wounds.”

Ms Otto said they would remain in care while they

searched for their owners.

“We don’t know if their owner did it or if they were lost and abused. We want to get the word out and make sure nobody is missing them,” she said.

“They’ll be available for adoption 21 days from the day they were first found as

strays and will only be released completely vetted.”

Ms Otto estimates they are six months old, small for their age from being malnourished and despite being food possessive there are no behavioural issues.

“They are kind, gentle, dog friendly, and grateful for everything,” she said.

“We’d like to thank the amazing woman who took them in. There is no doubt in our minds that it was meant to be and we’d also like to thank the community who has been so supportive.

“Bonnie and Clyde are safe, warm and going to be very happy.”

To pay for ongoing vet bills Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld is hosting a movie night tonight from 6.30 at Harristown State High School Auditorium.

Mean Girls will screen and there will be puppies to snuggle.

Entry is $35 and includes the ticket, snack pack and raffle tickets.

Tickets can be bought at stickytickets.com.au/56982.
