Gelding searches for best

Talented Toowoomba gelding Rhyme Nor Rhythm will be out to regain his winning touch when he returns to Clifford Park tomorrow.

The lightly raced five-year-old is looking for his first win since scoring at Clifford Park in January when he steps out in the Toowoomba Portable Toilets Class 5 Handicap (1200m) for trainer Lindsay Hatch.

Rhyme Nor Rhythm met strong support last time out when he resumed with a two-length fifth behind Tycoon Ace in a Doomben Entires and Geldings’ NMW Handicap on August 12.

Hatch was initially disappointed with his fresh effort but can find good reason to expect a stronger performance tomorrow.

“I was a little bit disappointed at first with his Doomben run,” Hatch said.

“But on reflection, he knocked up a bit and was beaten less than two lengths.

“We had to take advantage of his good gate as well and rode him up close, but ideally he’s probably better ridden a few fairs back off the speed.

“I’ve taken the blinkers off him as well this week.

“He’s had them on his last two runs when I don’t think they’ve helped him at all.

“It would be good to get him back home this week and try and pick up a kill. “But it’s a good race. “It’s only a small field but you can probably find a winning case for them all so he’ll need to step up as well.”

Toughest for Rhyme Nor Rhythm, who’ll be ridden by 1.5kg claimer Corey Bayliss, looks to include Zip To The Moon while ex- Sydneysider Iron George makes his Queensland debut in the race for trainer Ben Currie.

Currie — fresh from four Clifford Park wins last Saturday — saddles a string of well-fancied runners tomorrow including Song One in the Pryde’s Easifeed Class 3 Plate (1300m).
