Injuries hit Danes before GF
Pittsworth coach Ian Brackstone is looking for replacements for two key players after bad injury news ahead of Sunday’s TRL grand final.
Brackstone revealed Danes five-eighth Thomas O’Sullivan underwent surgery for a broken leg yesterday ruling him out of the decider against Dalby at Clive Berghofer Stadium.
O’Sullivan came from the field during the second half of the preliminary final against Valleys with what appeared to be a serious injury. His absence is a big loss for Pittsworth, especially after O’Sullivan took out the John McDonald Medal in last year’s grand final triumph.
Regular hooker Cameron Millar is also out again with a broken arm.
Millar missed the end of the regular season with a broken arm but came back in time for the finals.
He broke it again early on in the preliminary final but played on with the injury.
Brady Manktelow had been playing hooker during the finals with Millar spending time at lock, so Brackstone will look to promote another forward on to his bench.
But the loss of O’Sullivan is a tougher hole to fill.
Back-rowers Alex Kahler and Daniel York loom as potential grand final five-eighth options.
York put on a try for winger Alex Sinclair in the preliminary final win over Valleys with a deft short kick, with his experience and ball running ability making him a likely option.
