Pirates of Penzance Empire’s 2018 production

-

FOLLOWING the successful season of Wicked, Empire Theatre is thrilled to announce the major production for 2018 will be Essgee’s Pirates of Penzance.

Essgee’s unique brand of Gilbert and Sullivan first stormed across Australia in 1994.

It’s now being performed all over the world including productions across the United Kingdom, North America and even in Germany.

This adaptation has more laughs and a more modern sound than traditional versions.

Empire Theatre general manager Kerry Saul said the theatre was excited to announce the 2018 production and was proud to again be partnering with Heritage Bank.

“Pirates of Penzance is a favourite musical comedy for a lot of people and will be a hilarious night out at the theatre,” Mr Saul said.

“A unique feature of the show is the women’s chorus. They are known as The Fabulous Singlettes, who mimic pop trios from the 1960s. They sing in ‘50s/’60s-style close harmony.”

The Empire Theatre is currently calling for expressions of interest for the positions of director, choreographer and musical director with work on the production to begin in the coming weeks.

Auditions for the cast will be held in October this year with opening night set for March 14, 2018.

The Empire Theatre’s 2018 production of Pirates of Penzance is proudly sponsored by Heritage Bank.

Chief executive officer Peter Lock praised the choice of show and the Empire Theatre’s continued commitment to fostering the region’s artistic community.

“We’re delighted to once again sponsor the Empire’s major production for 2018,” he said.

“This show is a crowd pleaser that will be a must-see for everyone in the area.

“The production not only provides a fabulous night’s entertainment for the audience but also a huge boost to the professionalism and skills of everyone involved in bringing the show to life.”
