Ballet adds to carnival festivities

-

QUEENSLAND Ballet’s family favourite La Fille mal gardée will be on the Empire Theatre stage during the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, delighting audiences for two performances.

Performed on Friday, September 15, and Saturday September 16, La Fille mal gardée is the only performance by the highly acclaimed Queensland Ballet, led by Artistic Director Li Cunxin during the 2017 Season.

Set in the French countryside in the 1950s, La Fille mal gardée delights and entertains audiences as a love triangle creates comic chaos.

Lise loves Colas. Colas loves Lise. But Lise’s mother, the Widow Simone, has agreed that her wayward daughter should marry Alain, son of a pompous, wealthy vineyard owner. Alain however, is more interested in his precious umbrella than romance.

What ensues is a series of mischievous antics as Lise works her way out of the Widow’s marriage contract and into the arms of her love-struck beau.

Choreographed by the French-born Marc Ribaud, La Fille is popular family favourite because of its engaging story, colourful humour and beautiful dancing.

Adding to the excitement surrounding this performance is the inclusion of a small group of local dance students who will be performing alongside the professional company on stage.

The students, aged 5-12, auditioned in June, taking advantage of this rare opportunity to share the spotlight with Queensland Ballet’s extraordinary principal artists.
