Charlton gets super-charger site

Drivers can charge up electric vehicles in our area

-

THE Caltex Charlton Travel Centre will include a fast-charging electric vehicle station as part of the State Government’s Electric Super Highway program.

Executive director of Ray Group, Jack Ray, said it was a logical for businesses to back the innovative and sustainable approach to transport.

“Businesses and services in the Darling Downs region stand to benefit from having an electric vehicle charging station installed at the Ray Group’s Caltex Charlton Travel Centre, as drivers will be encouraged to spend more time in the local area while their vehicles charge,” he said.

“Located eastbound on the busy Warrego Hwy this fast charging station will be well used in the future as electric vehicles increase in popularity.”

Acting Main Roads Minister Steven Miles this week announced the Charlton site along with 12 others primarily along the east coast.

“We recently called for tenders to find suitable contractors to install electric vehicle chargers at 12 of these sites,” he said.

“Tenders are now closed and we will announce the successful contractors in the coming weeks.

“Contractors were able to tender for the work in two groups - six northern sites and six southern sites.”

Site details for four other stations including Gatton, Toowoomba, Townsville and Brisbane will be announced in coming months.

Charging sites that are part of Queensland’s Electric Super Highway include Cairns, Tully, Bowen, Mackay, Maryborough, Carmila, Marlborough, Rockhampton, Miriam Vale, Childers, Cooroy, Helensvale and Coolangatta.
