TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

There was a small reduction in supply and the vast majority of the young cattle either sold to feeder operators or restockers with only a handful to slaughter.

Restockers displayed very little interest on the light weight yearling steers.

However, feeder operators provided stronger competitio­n on yearling steers to feed for the domestic market.

Export slaughter lines of heavy grown steers and bullocks also experience­d some improvemen­t in price and cows were generally dearer by 5c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock mostly sold around 312c with some to 339.2c/kg.

Yearling steers in the 280-330kg range to feed made to 314.2c with most close to 313c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to a top of 317.2c to average 312c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to slaughter averaged 258c and made to 270c while some poor quality lines mostly sold around 232c/kg.

A handful of well presented heavy weight yearling heifers sold to the trade at 285.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 269.2c to average close to 265c while the bullock portion averaged 268c with the occasional sale to the wholesale meat trade at 280.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 190c and good medium weight lines averaged 203c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 213.2c to average 207c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 269.2c/kg to return $2826/head.

GYMPIE CATTLE

There was a mixed quality yarding of 1275 cattle at Sullivan Livestock’s Gympie sale.

The market showed signs of improvemen­t throughout particular­ly meatworks cattle, and better quality lines of heavy feeder and weaners.

Cattle were drawn from Gayndah, Bundaberg, Maryboroug­h, Aramara, Woolooga, Miva, Nambour, Maleny, Conondale, Kenilworth and all local areas.

Heavy feeder steers from John and Liz Allen, Nambour made $2.86 ($1323).

Santa x steers from Doug Sallaway sold for $2.89 ($1252).

Quality Charbray steers from J& C Rayner, Goomborian sold for $2.97 ($1232).

Charbray steers from Graham Blowers, Munna Creek made $2.93 ($1183) while their Droughtmas­ter brothers sold for $2.81 ($1136).

Charbray steers from the Nugent Family, Woolooga sold for $3.01 ($1110).

Charbray steers from David Ross, Munna Creek made $3.04 ($920 & $917).

Charbray weaner steers from Ted Fisher, Widgee made $3.19 ($791).

Charbray x steers from Peter & Kay Gerrard made $3.23 ($759) and $3.27 ($764).

Droughtmas­ter steers from Chris Black, Bells Bridge sold for $3.29 ($882).

Fitzgerald & Co sold Droughtmas­ter steers for $3.55 ($848) and $3.25 ($861) and $3.35 ($784).

Droughtmas­ter steers from David and Elizabeth Allomes, Miva Homestead sold for $3.29.

Brangus steers from The Dowling Family, Gunalda made $3.43 ($856).

Generally better quality weaner steers sold from $3.05 to $3.55.

No quality feeder heifers were yarded.

Weaner heifers sold to a top of $3/kg, while good conditione­d weaner heifers sold from $2.50 to $2.71 to processors.

MORETON CATTLE

Agents Boyd, O'Brien Bartholome­w reported a yarding of 435 head at Moreton on Tuesday.

Values for yearlings and vealers were unchanged to slightly easier on last week.

Trade cattle also experience­d a downward trend.

Heavy feeders were slightly firmer, while all export showed the biggest shift with values up 10-12 c/kg.

R Lehmann of Minden sold yearling heifers for 268.2 c/kg weighing 700kg to return $625.

Santa x yearling steers account O'Brien's transport sold for 299.2 c/kg weighing 204 kg to return $610.

Pecan Pastoral Co sold pasture heifers for 279.2 c/kg weighing 375kg to return $1047.

J& A Siddins sold pasture steers for 289.2 c/kg weighing 312kg to return $903.

Pasture ox account G MacMillan of Jondaryn sold for 278.2 c/kg weighing 653kg to return $1818.

IM L Harrington sold feeder steers for 284.2 c/kg weighing 375kg to return $1065.

Feeder heifers account IML Harrington sold for 287.2 c/kg weighing 435kg to return $1249.

Grain assist steers account D& E Spring of Harlin sold for 289.2 c/kg weighing 435kg to return $1315.

Symbol "D" sold grain assist heifers for 277.2 c/kg weighing 351 kg to return $974.

Dairy culls account M Jensen of Glamorganv­ale sold for 205 c/kg weighing 690kg to return $1414.

C Brown of Gatton sold medium grade cows for 223.2 c/kg weighing 690kg to return $1540.

Tanya Coleman of Toogoolawa­h sold Simmental cross cows for 228.2 c/kg weighing 602kg to return $1374.

Registered red brahman cows account W& R Kaschula sold for 365.2 c/kg weighing 570kg to return $2081.

N& R Benfer sold d'master bull for 257.2 c/kg weighing 820kg to return $2109.

WARWICK CATTLE

The supply of stock into the saleyards experience­d very little change.

Apart from heavy weight yearling steers to feed losing ground in price most other classes sold to a firm to dearer trend.

A fair panel of buyers was present and most were operating.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers or background averaged 12c to 15c/kg better.

Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged 4c dearer and medium weight yearling heifers to feed lifted in price by 6c/kg.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks also improved in price and all classes of cows were dearer with gains of 8c to 10c and up to 14c/kg in places.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 351.2c with a fair sample around 336c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 317.2c to average 297c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 275c, making to 280c, and a few to the trade averaged 273c for a top of 287.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers sold for 276c with some to restockers reaching 300.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged close to 266c and local trade lines averaged a similar amount, making to 280c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 271c and made to 275.2c/kg.

Bullocks averaged 264c and made to 265.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 194c and the better end of the medium weights averaged 210c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 224.2c with most around 216c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 279.2c/kg.

ROMA STORE

Yarding at Roma Store sale was down 1350 head on last week with 3498 head penned.

The quality was above average and the market was 15c/kg stronger on last week.

Additional restockers were in attendance and all usual buyers were present and operating.

Despite the long dry spell the lanes are full of optimism as we are reminded the market remains elevated compared to previous years and every day that goes by we are one day closer to the much needed rain.

Calf sales were strong and topped at 370c, yearling steers made to 366c to average 307c with trade steers selling at 356c to average 299c/kg.

Heavy trade steers sold at 280c to average 262c, yearling heifers reached a top of 302c to average 273c and trade heifers made to a top of 258c to average 252c/kg.

Young bulls sold to 292c to average 262c and heavier bulls topped at 257c to average 245c/kg.

Cows topped at 218c to average 180c and cows with calves at foot topped at $1260/unit.

DALBY CATTLE

Numbers reduced by 27%.

Buyer representa­tion improved with the return of a local export processor plus some additional support from interstate.

The feeder buyer panel also improved with some extra operators included in the line-up.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 18c dearer and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed lifted by 9c/kg.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged 5c/kg better.

However, the cows experience­d gains of 5c to 11c/kg.

Yearling steers over 400kg to feed made from 280.2c to 305.2c averaging 298.1c/kg.

Yearling heifers to feed averaged 260c/kg.

Heavy weight grown steers sold from 240.2c to 264.2c to average 252.8c, with grown heifers making to 255.2c/kg.

Heavy cows sold from 205.2c to 223.2 with an average of 215.5c, up by 11c/kg.

The best heavy weight bull made 265c/kg.
