TOOWOOMBA CATTLE
NUMBERS remained virtually unchanged and apart from a few well-presented pens the remainder were not up to the standard of the previous week.
A fair panel of buyers was present however feeder operators were selective in their purchases.
Most of the young cattle sold to feeder operators with only a handful to restockers or the trade.
Light weight yearling steers to feed experienced strong competition.
However medium weights were 7c to 12c/kg cheaper.
A lift in the number and quality of the heavy weight yearling steers to feed increased average prices.
Light weight yearling heifers to feed or the trade averaged 10c/kg dearer.
A larger better quality line-up of heavy grown steers and bullocks sold to a market 3c/kg dearer.
Cows also experienced some improvements of 1c to 4c/kg.
A few steer calves returned to the paddock at an average of 332c while some lesser quality mixed sex calves averaged 270c/kg.
Light weight yearling steers to feed made to 312.2c, to average 308c/kg.
Yearling steers in the 280-330kg range to feed made to 314.2c, to average 302c, while the medium weights sold to a similar amount and averaged 305c/kg.
Heavy yearling steers to feed made to 290.2c to average 284c/kg.
Light weight yearling heifers sold in the 270c range with the occasional few to restockers reaching 294.2c/kg.
Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 257c and some to the trade made to 267.2c to average close to 260c/kg.
Heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged close to 268c with a few pens reaching 272.2c/kg.
Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 183c/kg.
Good heavy cows made to 216.2c to average 208c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 285.2c/kg.

AGENTS Boyd, O’Brien Bartholomew reported a yarding of 450 head at Moreton on Tuesday.
The market eased slightly for most descriptions, all buyers were present but due to drier conditions they were operating under limits.

BURNETT Livestock and Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday saw a very mixed quality yarding of 1074 head.
The current dry season saw the better quality cattle sold to firm to dearer rates while the plainer types were cheaper.
Heavy bulls topped at 269c; not enough bullocks were yarded to quote; cows over
500kg topped at 231c; cows 400kg to 500kg topped at 208c; trade heifers over 400kg topped at 267c.

ROMA STORE
THERE was a yarding of 3911 head at the Roma Store sale, down 300 head on last week.
Quality was good and young cattle were plentiful as prices held firm, if not stronger, with supply and demand generating bids from all directions.
Fewer cattle off oats are being yarded as oats crops finish.
Mixed sex calves topped at
376.2c to average 316c/kg.
Weaner steers under 280kg back to the paddock made to a top of 374.2c to average 341c/kg.
Trade steers over 280kg to feed made to a top of 360.2 to average 306c/kg.
Heavy feeders steers over 400kg made to a top of 286.2c to average 270c/kg.
Weaner heifers back to the paddock under 280kg made to a top of 310.2c, to average 280c/kg.
Trade heifers to feed over 280kg made to a top of 300c, to average 256c/kg some returning to the paddock.
Young bulls under 400kg made to a top of 330c, to average 287c/kg.
Bulls over 600kg topped at a high price of 274.2c/kg.
WARWICK CATTLE
THIS week’s yarding increased by 322 for a total of 1078 head.
The yarding consisted of a good supply of young cattle and a fair penning of grown cattle.
The offering of young cattle consisted of a large percentage of light weight yearling steers and heifers that went mainly to restockers and backgrounders, with only an odd sale going to the trade.
Quality varied with some good runs of well-bred cattle through the sale, along with several pens of cattle that were off crop or supplementary fed.
The market was firm to slightly dearer with light restocker yearling steers selling to a top of 344c/kg.
Feeder yearling steers sold to a top of 295c to average 274c/kg.
The odd trade yearling steers sold to 296c for heavy weights, and trade yearling heifers topped at 304c/kg.
Feeder heifers sold up to 284c, to average 260c/kg.
The yarding of export cattle was made up of a small penning of grown steers and
heifers and a fair yarding of cows.
Quality varied with several pens of well finished cattle offered, however there was a fair percentage of plain quality cattle through the sale.
Grown steers sold to a top of 274c to average 260c, and heifers topped at 255c/kg.
The cow market was firm to 4c dearer with 3 score medium weights under 500kg averaging 202c and heavy cows selling to a top of 224c/kg.
Heavy bulls sold up to 289c/kg.
DALBY CATTLE
NUMBERS increased by over 1000 head and overall quality was fair to good.
A number of classes sold to a dearer market.
Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 16c better however heavy weight yearling steers to feed went against this trend to lose 10c to 14c/kg against the large improvement of the previous week.
Heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged 4c to 10c/kg dearer.
A good supply of cows lifted further in price to average 5c to 7c dearer against the improvements of 5c to 11c/kg of the previous sale.
Medium weight yearling steers made from 292.2c to 319.2c and averaged 310.8c/kg.
Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made from 257.2c to 285.2c, up 8c to average 266.7c/kg.
Grown steers in the 600-750kg range sold from 269.2c to 277.2c up 10c and averaging 275.6c with heavy grown heifers back 13c to average 197.1c/kg.
D4 Cows to processors made from 203.2c to 220.2c and heavy weights were up 7c and made 208.2c to 234.2c/kg.
Heavy bulls made to 282.2c/kg.
MURGON CATTLE
850 WERE yarded in Murgon on Tuesday with the market improving slightly in certain areas.
The continuing dry conditions are now defiantly taking a toll on the condition of cattle, and weight loss will
only continue now until there is a break in the season.
Feeder numbers were in short supply with most of the store cattle yarded being weaner age animals.
Cattle were consigned from Mt Perry, Biggenden, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Yarraman, Nanango, Kingaroy and locally.
Heavy Bulls sold to $2330.00 and $2.50 c/kg.
Cows over 520 kg sold to $2.10 c/kg averaging $1.99 c/kg.
Cows in the 400 – 500 kg range averaged $2.01 c/kg for a top of $2.12 c/kg.
Lighter Cows under 400 kg sold to $1.85 c/kg.
Export type heifers topped at $2.57 c/kg and $1380.
