Frank’s service worth drive for many mums

- Meghan Harris meghan.harris@thechronicle.com.au

GOOD customer service is worth driving across town for, according to many Toowoomba mums.

Filling up your car with fuel isn’t the easiest task when you have children in the back seat.

But that is why mums make the trip to the BP on the corner of Bridge and Mary Sts to specifically use Frank Lyndon’s driveway service.

Mr Lyndon fills up cars with fuel, checks the oil, battery and tyres and minds children in the car while parents run in to pay.

Mr Lyndon has been working at the service station since 1988.

“I’ve been here for as long as I can remember and I’ve always offered driveway service,” he said.

“I’m not sure why other service stations stopped offering it. It has faded out over time but many people still like it.

“I enjoy what I do and even though I’m almost at retiring age I have no plans to leave any time soon.”

Mum-of-three Melanie Crane is one of Mr Lyndon’s regulars and visits him every week.

“I moved to Toowoomba in 2015 and lived in Mount Lofty but I’ve moved twice since then and still always go back to Frank,” she said.

“I’m a mum and there is always 1000 things to do and when my fuel light comes on I just sigh and think ‘I don’t have time.’

“But I go and see Frank and not only does he fill up my car but there is something special about him that lifts my mood.

“He is so lovely and has a real kindness about him.”

A discussion recently started on the Toowoomba Mums Facebook page.

A new mum asked if there were any service stations that would allow her to pay by credit card at the bowser, save her leaving her newborn in the car while she paid inside.

The post was flooded with comments, with many people suggesting Mr Lyndon’s service.

Laura Pascoe said: “The BP on the corner of Mary and Bridge Sts has a lovely man who fills up your car for you and stands with the car while you duck in and pay.”

Monique Jeanneret said: “I second Mary and Bridge BP. The gentleman is lovely and gives you the old fashioned service that was lost to the new generation.”

Annie McKeiver said: “Frank from BP Bridge and Mary Sts is amazing. Such a help.”

Ms Crane said she was amazed there were so many people who knew about Mr Lyndon and was happy he was getting the recognition he deserved.

“I thought I was the only mum who used Frank’s services weekly but it’s great to see he is helping so many people,” she said.

“It may seem like a small thing but he has a gift.

“He not only makes our life easier by helping fill up our car, he has such a calming, kind presence.”
