Bunnings build impacts street

-

RUTHVEN St commuters to the north of the Toowoomba CBD can expect delays as developers behind the city’s newest Bunnings Warehouse expand a busy intersection near Bridge St.

Hutchinson Civil, the contractor behind the new Bunnings Warehouse on Ruthven St, has flagged changes to Ruthven and Moffat Sts after lengthy works on the Bridge St in recent months.

In a letter signed by Hutchinson project manager Juan Gonzalez delivered to North Toowoomba residents, the works are flagged to start on Wednesday as part of the ongoing warehouse build on the corner of Bridge and Ruthven Sts.

“Part of these works includes road works to the Moffatt and Ruthven Sts intersection,” the letter read.

“These works are to provide safety access to Ruthven St from Moffatt St and construct a new bicycle lane.

“We anticipate commencing works Wednesday ... with works to continue until mid October.

“There will be intermediate disruptions to pedestrians and vehicle traffic throughout this period, but all business accesses will be maintained.”

Two maps were included in the advisory letter which said temporary traffic arrangements and revised speed limits would be in place during construction.

“In order to construct the works, temporary lane arrangements will be in place shifting traffic to the western side of Ruthven St,” the letter read.

Bunnings is yet to announce its official opening date despite recruiting to fill more than 180 workers at the site.

Construction began late last year.
