Changes to come for Longs Building

-

PLANS to revamp a prominent CBD building are well under way.

The Longs Building on Margaret St was bought for $3 million by five investors, with plans to transform the site into a dining and retail precinct.

The site includes the former home of Veraison, Cafe Forte and Linen Chest.

The building was purchased in June and investors have wasted no time getting plans rolling.

Mark Adamson of As Planned Development confirmed the site would begin to be redeveloped in December and would only take about four months to complete.

He said it was a way to reinvigorate Margaret St and the Toowoomba CBD.

“As we have mentioned we are keeping the existing stature and refurbishing the inside to make it a go-to hub,” he said.

“It’s a very exciting time and we are looking forward to the opportunity of contributing to the regeneration of the Toowoomba CBD.”

Speaking to The Chronicle earlier in the year Mr Adamson confirmed the building would be renamed The Longs Quarter.

The building has been owned by the Long family, now based in New Zealand, since 1916 and is the first time it has been sold in 101 years.

The sale price included a carpark at the rear of the building, giving the Longs site a foothold above other retailers dependant on street parking or foot traffic for business.
