Gore returns to state of democracy today

-

RELEASED in 2006, Al Gore’s controversial film, An Inconvenient Truth “moved the global warming debate like nothing before it”.

His new film, An Inconvenient Sequel, will no doubt re-fuel the heated arguments on climate reform.

Assault on Reason is a timely updated edition of his earlier book. It returns to Gore’s other hot topic; the state of democracy today.

He says that when reason and logic are removed from the process of democracy, the integrity of the judicial and political system fails.

In the grab for raw power, voters are targets for easy manipulation. There is no longer a connectedness with the people but a tedious propagandistic monologue. It is no longer a representative democracy making collective decisions. Mr Trump fires anyone who disagrees with him.

Former US vice-president and Nobel Peace prize winner Al Gore should know what goes on behind closed doors at the White House as well as in the wider world arena.

He reveals with true insider knowledge the dangers of a presidency that crossed the line.

His indictment of the Bush administration begins with the less than honest campaign and the subsequent election of an incompetent president.

Gore does not just point the finger; with overwhelming evidence he lays a blistering case against those in power such as Vice-President Cheney, whose obsessive and dangerous decision-making led to the Iraq war; ISIS is its aftermath.

Gore discusses how the 9/11 tragedy was exploited while hiding the fact the intelligence agencies and consequently the American people were so ill-informed and unprepared.

Cover-ups still abound; obfuscation and plain deceit conceals government business that the public has a right to know.

We live in dangerous times and the tactics of the present Administration are no comfort.

Al Gore writes with an invigorating and eloquent combination of modesty, compassion and razor sharp insight. In a dispiriting era, Gore’s thoughts and ideals are a ray of hope.

Offering no quick-fix solutions, he reflects on the values that have charted his course in public life. Join the watch with Al Gore.
