Make your own flying machines

-

It is so much fun making something then watching it work.

Here are a few ideas of flying machines you can make and test.

Copter

You will need: 1 plastic straw; cardboard; scissors; tape.

What to do: 1. Cut the cardboard into two strips. One 2.5cm wide and 30cm long and one 2.5cm x 13cm. 2. Overlap the ends of each strip by 2cm and tape together to make two loops – one big, one small 3. Set the straw inside the smaller loop so the end sticks just outside the loop. Tape the straw to the inside. 4. Tape the other end of the straw to the inside of the large loop, making sure the straw is set evenly so the flying machine is balanced. 5. To fly your machine, hold it between your thumb and forefinger and toss it in the air at an upward angle.

Kite

You will need: 2 pieces of 5mm dowel (one 65cm in length the other 50cm); Stanley knife; craft glue; ball of string; disposable plastic tablecloth; scissors; strong tape; stapler; large embroidery needle; ribbon (for decorating the tail).

Paper plane

These holidays build some different model paper planes to see which one will fly further and which one will glide longer.

You will find many websites providing different planes with folding instructions.
