Heart Bus saves lives in the bush

-

SIX Toowoomba cyclists have joined 28 women from Brisbane for the inaugural girls Got Heart - Heart of Uralla 2017 ride from Brisbane to Meandarra.

All funds raised will go to the Heart of Australia Heart Bus, which provides critically needed heart health services for remote and rural Queensland communities.

The Toowoomba cyclists – Bella Reynolds, Sarah Austin, Lesley Goff, Therese Blades, Elissa Walker and Katrina McNalthy – held a fundraiser earlier in the month at Fitzys, which assisted them with their minimum fundraising goals and entry fees for the ride.

Rider Ms Reynolds said the fundraisier was very successful and raised more than $15,000.

She said Heart Bus founder Dr Rolf Gomes was the guest speaker, Fairholme College (who sponsored the event) provided entertainment and guests dined on beef produced from Mort and Co.

“We had an amazing time, the response from the (140) people in the room was amazing,” she said.

“The key thing that resonated was that we want our bush cousins to have the same access to specialist care as we do in Toowoomba or Brisbane.

“People are dying because they don’t have access to that specialist care.”

Ms Reynolds said the bus had already saved 120 people.

“They would have died if they hadn’t had seen a specialist,” she said.

The bike ride took place on August 16 to 18.
