Serena’s baby’s cot wins all the attention

WHEN tennis champion Serena Williams posted an adorable video documenting her pregnancy journey on Instagram, it wasn’t her newborn baby girl that stole the show.

It was Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr’s $900 rose gold cot, made by Australian homewares company Incy Interiors, that went nuts on social media.

Founder Kristy Withers had gifted the cot to Williams and her fiance, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, after their US publicity team put them in touch.

“We’ve known about it for a little while but we’ve been under embargo. We’ve been told not to talk about it, because there was supposed to be a magazine shoot happening,” Ms Withers told news.com.au.

“But as soon as she posted that video, the phone has been running hot. We’ve been tagged on Instagram all day. It’s been amazing, so cool.”

Ms Withers said she was unsure how many orders had been placed since Williams’ post went live.

“Rose gold is kind of our signature. We have it in a bed too. It was on The Block and we do have a number of other products with gold accents,” she said.

“It’s just unique and glamorous. Everyone loves a little bit of bling. It’s really cool and just goes to show the power of social media.”

The company has one store in Sydney but is stocked in 11 countries around the world, as well as online.

Two weeks ago, Williams, 35, announced that she had given birth to a baby girl.

Williams has previously said that the pregnancy was an accident. She learned she was pregnant just before the Australian Open in January, which she went on to win.

She told Vanity Fair she was so shocked that she took six pregnancy tests.

“I did a double take and my heart dropped,” she said. “Like literally, it dropped.”
