Qld governor visits Somerset
SOMERSET: Governor of Queensland Paul de Jersey will this weekend join the Somerset region’s 144th anniversary ceremony marking the release of red deer into state forestry.
The red deer were a gift from Queen Victoria, and Governor de Jersey with Kaye de Jersey will celebrate the anniversary by formally recognising a bronze statue at the Somerset Regional Art Gallery - The Condensery, crafted by resident artist Bodo Muche.
The community is invited to join the special celebration that will be held at the gallery at 29 Factory Rd, Toogoolawah at 10am on Saturday.
An exhibit showcasing Australian history through the eyes of Somerset artists Mr Muche and Susan McConnel who will display a combined 70 artworks.
Ms McConnel, a visual artist, will exhibit works which reflect the nation’s history through vibrant colours and distinct art pieces.
Mr Muche’s work features a selection of life-like bronzed sculptures reflecting the Australian way of life through animals and people.
Artwork from Toogoolawah State School students will also be on display at the exhibit which will remain open to Sunday, October 8.
Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said it was an honour to have the governor visit the gallery.
“The Condensery is a unique space for residents and visitors to enjoy and immerse themselves in the region’s history and art culture,” Cr Lehmann said.
The gallery is open Wednesday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
