State champions use home court advantage

Toowoomba enjoyed some success as it hosted the Queensland Junior Indoor Cricket Championships at the weekend.

The state’s best up-and-coming indoor cricketers competed at Action Indoor Sports in Harristown.

It was a memorable event for Toowoomba’s under 16 boys team as it played some tremendous cricket to be crowned state champions.

The Toowoomba Purple under 14s team reached its grand final and came close to prevailing against a talented team from Strathpine that eventually took out the state title, but not before a big challenge from the hosts.

Toowoomba White was also unable to take its place in the semi-finals due to a lack of available players, so that age group proved to be a strong one for the state championships host.

Toowoomba also fielded teams in the under 10s and under 12s age groups as plenty of players got the chance to take on the best from across the state on their home courts.

Oakey also entered a team in the under 10s as the Darling Downs had some strong representation.

It was a big weekend for indoor cricket in Toowoomba as Dragons seniors Lyle Teske and Jeremy Crighton also helped Australia to World Cup wins in Dubai.

The players in action at Harristown could soon be emulating the feats of Teske and Crighton.
