Brendan Doggett plans on learning as much as he can as part of Queensland’s squad for the national One-Day Cup.

Doggett has been named in the 14-man Bulls squad for the 50-over tournament, which starts on Wednesday, in what is a big achievement for the rising Toowoomba fast bowler.

The former Souths seamer will join the likes of Billy Stanlake, Michael Neser and Cameron Gannon in Queensland’s pace bowling arsenal as they prepare for their opening match against the Cricket Australia XI on Friday at Allan Border Field.

The Bulls also boast the likes of Test batsmen Usman Khawaja, and Matthew Renshaw, so Doggett is part of a talented squad.

“It’s certainly a privilege to start with,” Doggett said of his selection in the Bulls one-day squad.

Stanlake earned a one-day international call-up last summer while Neser was the Bulls Player of the Year, and with the likes of Gannon, Ben Cutting, Jack Wildermuth and rising spin star Mitch Swepson other bowlers in the squad, opportunities could be limited for Doggett.

from his team mates.

“I’m not too fussed about it to be honest,” Doggett said when asked how much cricket he could get during the series.

“I just hope to play as many games as I can.”

Queensland heads into the one-day tournament keen to build on a promising one-day tournament last summer.

The Bulls made the final only to fall to New South Wales in the decider.

“I think we’re in with a shot, definitely. Hopefully we can go one better,” Doggett said of Queensland’s chances this season.

Warwick paceman Mark Steketee will line-up for the Cricket Australia XI after not being included in the Bulls squad.

He could be in action when the squad of up-and-coming youngsters opens the one-day series against South Australia at Allan Border Field on Wednesday.

Doggett played with the CA XI during last season’s One-Day Cup.
