Get your club NDIS-ready

-

Not-for-profit community clubs and associations are part of the fabric of our community at a local level. They include sporting and special interest clubs, service clubs and even business or professional associations.

Like anyone else, people with disabilities enjoy connecting with their community through special interests. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) local area coordinators are working with participants to identify suitable options to ensure they can join in.

The NDIA will also work with community organisations to increase their awareness of the needs and desires of people with disability. The NDIA is a resource for clubs and associations and will help to explore strategies that assist in making access and participation for people with disability easier.

This might include activities such as:

Identifying basic training that would help employees, volunteers and business operators work more effectively with special needs.

Advice on facilities including minor modifications such as more accessible paths around a community garden.

Transport arrangements for away games, field trips or outings.

Kitchen tools to help people with disability participate in regular activities such as working on a stall or sausage sizzle.

Clubs and associations that are interested in making sure their programs are suitable for people with disability should contact their local NDIS and be ready to connect with diverse community needs.
