Make or break for keen Crow

AFL: Adelaide vice-captain Rory Sloane says injured teammate Mitch McGovern has “nothing to lose” by pushing himself to the limit at training today.

Sloane says the high-marking forward will attempt to prove his fitness for Saturday’s AFL grand final against Richmond after missing the preliminary final win against Geelong with a hamstring injury.

“He’s got nothing to lose,” Sloane said yesterday.

“He either gets up and plays or he doesn’t, but we’ll give him absolutely every chance. “He’s been running at the start of the week, which is all we can ask of him at the moment, and I’m sure he’ll be at our main training session.

“He needs to do everything at training and be confident in it (the hamstring) and be absolutely cherry-ripe to play.

“He hasn’t done a main training session yet so he is going to have to prove himself tomorrow.”

The talented McGovern suffered the injury in a match simulation session in Adelaide’s bye week before the preliminary final.

Sloane said he was over his own soreness following his heavy second-quarter collision with former teammate Patrick Dangerfield against the Cats.

“It’s like running into a brick wall with ‘Danger’ because he’s a very thick, strong man so I’m glad I came away unscathed with that one,” Sloane said.

Sloane is relieved to be cleared to play in the grand final after dodging an AFL match review panel bullet.

“I wasn’t worried and only started hearing about it on the Sunday morning when the media started talking about it, but I think they (the MRP) made the right decision with everyone, which is what you want (going into a grand final),” Sloane said.
