Too much hate over postal vote

-

IVOTED “yes” in the same-sex postal vote. I believe same-sex marriage should be legalised. But what surprised me most in the process of researching and writing Weekend’s double-page feature article was the increase in the number of marriages in question.

A social researcher who has crunched the numbers for Weekend says if legalisation happens it will mean 1056 more marriages a year.

All this furore, all this hate bubbling up, over 1056 more marriages.

The longer this postal vote drags on, the bigger a waste of time and money, it seems to me.

Why couldn’t we just say “yes” and move on to issues that affect all Australians, gay and straight?

Read more about how legalisation will affect the wedding and honeymoon industries in this Weekend.

Also in this edition of the magazine, journalist Sharon Luck finds her way to a water temple at Ubud in Bali and enjoys a few of the finer things in life on the island.

Of course, our thoughts are with the residents and tourists as one of the island’s volcanoes continues to rumble and cause earthquakes further afield.

And find out why five villages in Italy draw thousands of visitors from across the world.
