Make some room to grow

Simple storage solutions and ways you can add pizzazz to children’s areas

MOST parents will be familiar with the mess and chaos that can follow children around. Therefore, a child’s bedroom needs to be practical, first and foremost. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t also look good.

Here are some things to keep in mind.

AGE: For young children, you might want to consider bunk beds. Kids often think they’re great fun, but they also save a lot of space. It’s the perfect solution for a small or shared room.

As they get older, most kids will want to restyle their rooms to suit their new identity. The tween years – the years between small child and teenager – are the perfect time to add some maturity to your child’s space with some more sophisticated styling. The older they get, the more time your child will tend to spend in his or her room. Therefore, you might want to consider providing a desk or work space.

SPACE: As mentioned above, bunk beds are a great solution for a small or shared room. Even if it’s just one child, the bottom bunk can be transformed into a sofa. Similarly, consider beds with in-built storage or a trundle. This can be a great solution for when friends stay over – or simply just to store your child’s things.

STYLE: Your child will probably want their bedroom to reflect their identity. Bed linen is a great way to personalise a space according to your child’s taste and preferences.
