Big Q about to tip off new era in basketball

-

BASKETBALL: A new era in basketball on the Darling Downs starts today when the inaugural Big Q competition ignites.

Harristown Runnin Rebels will take on Warwick Wildcats at Harristown State High School in the first clash of the season.

This is the only fixture of the weekend as remaining games in the first round will be played next weekend.

The Runnin Rebels women’s team will have some handy players for Warwick to look out for, with Toowoomba Mountaineers Despena Dickerson and Chelsea Orbell to play.

Dickerson will return after missing the QBL season due to a shoulder injury.

“I’m really excited about playing again, working on my skills and competing in the Big Q,” she said.

In men’s A grade, Warwick coach Jeff Clarke thinks Dominic Cremasco will be an asset for the Wildcats this weekend.

“Dominic will be hard to stop and we need him to carry our team,” Clarke said.

“I just don’t see the Rebels having anyone to stop him.”

Harristown men’s coach Pop Dickerson has his own game plan for the round one contest.

“The Wildcats are a veteran team and my young guys will need to run the floor to beat them,” he said.

The women’s game starts at 5pm, with the men’s game at 7pm.
