Favourite time of year on chamber calendar

- with Chamber president Joy Mingay

WELL, here we are at my favourite time of year on the chamber calendar – October – which means Heritage Bank Business Excellence awards.

Finalists will be announced this week and I hear the job of the judges this year has been difficult, not just because of the sheer number of entries, but also the high calibre of the applications.

Ever year we hear amazing stories of hard work, innovation and success from the Hall of Fame winner and the Heritage Bank Business of the Year.

Last year was no exception with Cracker Print winning the Hall of Fame award for all that they do in this community and Gabbinbar Homestead won the Business of Year. Given how Gabbinbar has become the byword for elegance; and knowing brides come from far and wide to have their weddings there – it is no surprise.

Over the years we have seen some amazing businesses honoured in the Hall of Fame – Russell Mineral Equipment, Wagners, Taylor’s Removals, FKG – and I know this year will be no exception.

I am certain the Business of the Year will provide us with opportunities to learn some tips and tricks on innovation and good practice that we will be able to adapt in our own businesses.

I would like to acknowledge the support of Heritage Bank, who have sponsored these awards for more than 10 years in its current format with chamber and the category sponsors who have come back year after year, because like chamber they too believe in supporting and celebrating the best of the best.

I look forward to our night of nights, the Gala Awards dinner on Saturday, October 14 at the Empire Theatre. Some tickets are still available through Empire Theatre box office or contact chamber on 4638 0400.
