TSBE brings Indian mining giant to Toowoomba

-

THE region’s chief industry group is bringing Indian mining giant Adani to town this week in an effort to cash in on the expected resources boom.

Throwing open the invitation to business leaders, Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise will host Adani’s regional content manager Ben Hughes and media relations manager Ron Watson who, it is understood, will explain possible opportunities in the $16.5 billion mega mine.

Adani’s Carmichael Coal Mine will be the first in the Galilee Basin in Central Queensland and has been shrouded in controversy as environmental groups protest plans for what is expected to be Australia’s largest mine, and one of the largest in the world.

TSBE has previously led a delegation with regional businesses seeking to tap into the venture which is forging ahead with plans to build the mine, and a dedicated rail line feeding to the Abbott Point coal terminal near Bowen.

Wagners last week confirmed it was in talks with the Indian mining giant to build a private airport to service the mine.

Adani has received the official go-ahead for its coal mine after years of state and federal assessments and challenges from environmental and conservation groups

“We know that the business community in our region has an unparalleled capability as a result of the gas industry,” TSBE executive chairman Shane Charles said.

“We know that we will be a key strategic region for Adani and will provide a number of services and employees to this mega project.”

Adani has established its head office in Townsville to which Toowoomba has direct flights through AirNorth via Wellcamp airport.

The TSBE enterprise evening, at the Armitage Centre on Thursday, will give an insight into what business partnerships could arise with the rail, port and coal mine development.

Ticket sales close at 5pm tomorrow at tsbe.com.au.
