The lessons we can all learn from kids’ movies

-

WHEN you look beneath the cute characters, the funny plot lines and the crazy animations, kids’ movies are often a whole lot deeper than we realise. Whether they teach us important life lessons or help us to understand our crazy world a little better, these lms have the potential to impart some incredibly strong wisdom on our children. Here are a few:

INSIDE OUT

This record-breaking 2015 lm comes complete with a deep message for kids about how to manage their emotions. We are taken into the headquarters of Riley’s brain where we meet Joy, Fear, Disgust, Anger and Sadness who show us how humans’ core emotions work. As Riley learns how to manage the chatty people inside her head, viewers learn the importance of sharing emotions with others, and how all of them – even anger and sadness – make up who we are.

WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

Both the original and the eccentric remake of this movie share a strong message to children about being good people. Charlie Bucket is from a poor family and wins a golden ticket to the magical chocolate factory along with a few other kids his age. The other kids are so wrapped up with greed and lack discipline which eventually leads to unfortunate consequences for them, and a win for well-mannered Charlie. A lesson that being kind and honest will get you a whole lot further than the opposite.

RACING STRIPES

There is nothing that says ‘believe in yourself’ like a zebra who takes on the thoroughbreds in a quest to make his dreams of being a racehorse come true. Stripes trains hard, battles disbelief from other horses and humans and nally wins a race. Children can learn a lot from this cute movie and know they too can make their dreams come true, even when the odds are against them.

TOY STORY

This family favourite puts a shining light on teamwork and the importance of friendship. As Woody, Buzz and the gang take on the big wide world, they show us size doesn’t matter and if you stick together, you can achieve anything.

SHREK

Behind every big, smelly ogre there is a gentle soul who just wants to be loved. This hilarious movie shows kids it doesn’t matter what you look like, or what others think of you, if you love yourself, others will too. Plus, when Princess Fiona’s secret is revealed, we learn even the most beautiful of us all aren’t perfect. Grab 15 of the best kids’ movies on DVD with the paper each day from this Sunday.
