Rain lifts sale enthusiasm

Numbers remained close to the sale of two weeks ago and most of the usual buyers were in attendance and operating.
Useful falls of rain in parts of the supply area lifted restocker enthusiasm and light-weight yearling steers gained over 20c/kg.
The lighter end of the yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged 10c better, while the heavy-weight yearling steers to feed improved by 7c/kg.
Light-weight yearling heifers experienced gains of 3c to 10c/kg.
Heavy-grown steers and bullocks lifted in price by 4c to 7c/kg.
A small selection of cows were firm to a few cents dearer than the last sale of two weeks ago.
Steer calves returning to the paddock averaged 338c and made to 347.2c/kg.
A small sample of vealer heifers sold to the trade at 288.2c with a few to 294.2c/kg.

The market at Moreton was considerably dearer for all export cattle with feeder cattle on the rise.

MORETON BULL SALE
Moreton Saleyards Annual Bull Sale saw 42 bulls sold out of 56 yarded.
Angus bulls were keenly sought after with Steve Haywards angus bulls selling for $4500 to B& A Roughan, $3000 to Barnes Grazing Co and again to GM & S Toft.
Phil Gutzke, Gutzke Rural Holdings sold a droughtmaster bull for $4250.

Beenleigh sold two droughtmaster bulls for $2750 and $2500.
John & Coral Winning of Bell sold limousin bulls to $4500. Derek Mays sold a droughtmaster bull for $4000.
Jarryd Janke of Flagstone sold 6 droughtmaster bulls in forward paddock condition to have a total clearance selling to $3000 and $2500.
Kaschula Cattle Co sold a charbray bull for $3000 to Perrett Traders.
Volume buyer on the day was Allan Perrett, Perrett Traders of “Daiper Station” Jimna, ending up with seven charolais and charbray bulls.
DALBY CATTLE
Good falls of rain in parts of the supply area reduced numbers to the lowest level for the year last week.
Prices improved across the board with medium weight yearling steers to feed 15c/kg dearer.
Heavy-weight yearling steers to feed averaged 13c better and yearling heifers improved by 5c to 9c/kg.
Export slaughter classes experienced the largest gains with heavy steers and bullocks 24c to 25c/kg dearer.
Cows followed a similar trend with the better end of the cows 20c to 22c/kg better.
Medium-weight yearling steers to feed made to 320c to average 297.1c/kg.
Yearling heifers over 400kg made from 257c to 265c and averaged 261.7c/kg.
Grown steers in the 500-600kg range made to 295.2c and averaged 290.9c, with grown heifers averaging 253.3c/kg.
Heavy-weight cows sold from 217.2c to 238.2c, up 22c/kg. The best heavy bull made 271.2c/kg.
WARWICK CATTLE
The supply of stock more than doubled the previous week’s level.
Young cattle were in the largest numbers along with a small selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks and good classes dominated the fair line-up of cows.
Light-weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged over 30c/kg better and medium weight yearling steers to feed increased by a similar amount.
Heavy-weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed improved in price by 11c/kg.
Light-weight yearling heifers to restockers sold 18c/kg dearer.
Heavy-grown steers and bullocks experienced very little change in price, while the better end of the cows gained 9c to 12c/kg.
Steer calves to restockers made to 348.2c, to average 344c and heifer calves made to 315.2c, to average 295c/kg.
Light-weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 324c with sales to 331.2c/kg.

ROMA STORE
There was a yarding of 3171 head at Roma store sale today, up 350 on last week.
The arrival of much-needed rain made for wet conditions at today’s sale, which has pushed the market up 20c to 40c/kg in places.
Optimistic backgrounders were in full force.
Quality was generally fair to good with some outstanding cows from Julia Creek.
Yearling steers made to 392.2c, to average 341c/kg.
Yearling heifers made to 324.2c, to average 270c/kg.
Feedlot entry-weight steers made to 382.2c, to average 300c, while heifers to feed made to 302.2c, averaging 268c/kg.
Grown steers made to 298.2c, to average 250c and grown heifers made to 266c, to average 258c/kg.
Quality cows to slaughter sold at 229.2c/kg. Store cows averaged near 185c/kg and cow calf units made to a top of $1560/unit.
Young bulls made to 388c, to average 292c and heavy bulls made to 254c to average 250c/kg.
WARWICK SHEEP
Warwick Selling Agents yarded 808 lambs and hoggets, and 301 sheep last week.
