Beers, barbecue at festival
City hosts Brews and Barbie Bash
THERE will be craft beers, wine, succulent barbecue eats and live music at the city’s newest festival.
The Brews and Barbie Bash will be held at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday, November 25.
The festival is a celebration of Darling Downs agricultural land, farmers, meat producers and small businesses.
It is an opportunity to get a group of friends together to enjoy a day of tasting locally produced food and drink.
People can also take the opportunity to browse the gourmet market alley and grab some goodies to take home.
Food vendors will offer a selection of mouth-watering meats either barbecued, grilled, smoked or slow cooked.
There will be a do-it-yourself barbecue station and Toowoomba’s first barbecue battle.
Ten teams will battle it out in the event run by the Australiasian Barbecue Alliance, where there will be
category winners and an overall grand champion.
The family event will feature gourmet food market stalls, games and live music.
The backyard games area will be bursting with activities to keep kids of all ages entertained with cricket, table tennis, darts, pin-ball machines.
The Original Mix founder and event director Amie Johnson said she wanted to bring something new to
Toowoomba.
“I was trying to come up with something different that hasn’t been done in town before and I had seen a lot of coastal towns utilising the barbecue competition and growing craft brewery scene,” she said.
“It’s a day where people can come and taste local craft beers and wine, eat great food and listen to music while hanging out with friends.”
People are encouraged to spend the night and camp on-site.
Day passes and camping tickets are available now.
About 2000 people are expected to attend the event.
Pre-order tickets are $22 and tickets on the day are $30.
