Water use

-

NO MATTER how we argue the cause of global warming, fact is we are experiencing it.

Everywhere you visit popular areas of Australia, we witness expansion. Development equals more bodies requiring water and food.

Growing food requires water. To me this equates to a never-ending development of effective water storage such as dams.

Very little evidence do I observe of such activity.

Yet, farmers are wringing their hands and eyeing off our large domestic water-storage facilities, such as Wivenhoe.

So far, whenever a situation arises for an urgent supply of this liquid gold, as in the Tarong Power Station operation and towns such as Toogoolawah, Esk, etc, Wivenhoe is tapped into.

This situation cannot continue.

We must up the stakes and not just suggest locations for new dams, we must urgently action for our security.

Never mind propping up off-shore mining magnates as this Adani. Direct all these dollar efforts toward securing supplies of precious water.

Seriously, how can the suggestion that the Lockyer Valley “harvest” over topping flows from Wivenhoe, to believe we can store such overflows in Atkinson – Clarendon – Dyer which appear to suffer serious evaporation or leaking like a sieve.

Better to create deep storage dams at the head of our valley water ways. Worth serious thought. — BOB FOWKE, Regency Downs
