DIDN’T get enough of Elton John during his tour of Australia last month?
For those who missed out on seeing the superstar live, there is still a chance to enjoy his greatest hits with the release of album Diamonds next month.
The two-CD edition starts with Your Song and includes Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man and Candle in the Wind.
Diamonds marks the 50th anniversary of John’s songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin.
The pair met in 1967 through a music magazine advert seeking songwriters and stole the limelight as a songwriting force in 1971 with Your Song.
The duo defined an era with their run of 1970s albums. Candle in the Wind, for example, topped the charts in three different decades.
Their legacy is one that is unrivalled in terms of longevity, creativity and commercial success.
John says the pair’s relationship remains strong.
“We are at 50 years and our relationship is healthier than it’s ever been,” he says.
“There have been times in our relationship when we’ve written with other people but it still didn’t stop the love.
“I love Bernie more than I’ve ever done and I think he probably feels the same way about me, because we’ve both led separate lives, we both write in separate rooms.
“We have an amazing respect and love for each other that’s only grown.”
Taupin says the duo still gets a kick out of what they do. “It’s what we do – when we come together and write something, it still has that magical quality to it – it doesn’t get any better than that. That feeling hasn’t aged,” he says.
The album is out on November 10.
