Ketchum finds home at Rangers
He is about 1000km from where he first planned to be but Massachusetts baseballer Ketchum Marsh is now looking to help Rangers make a Division One season impression after landing in Toowoomba last week.
Australia has been on Marsh’s baseball bucket list for some time and after missing an opportunity last year to link with clubs in Sydney he is more than happy to have answered the call to join Rangers.
The 23-year-old former Florida High School and US college student arrived in Queensland from Sweden where he mixed playing and coaching during a season stopover.
“I tried to get to Australia last winter with Baulkham Hills in Sydney and then Manly but it didn’t work out,” Marsh said.
“But I heard from this club and I can’t wait to be a part of the team and play some Aussie baseball.”
Marsh’s debut in the red
and blue last week didn’t get off to a fairytale start with Rangers going down 2-0 to Pine Hills in their home season openers.
This weekend Rangers are on the road to face new summer league club Coomera Cubs in a Saturday night and Sunday afternoon double header.
Rangers’ stocks will be further boosted this week with the return of former team member Matt Jones.
“Matt has rejoined us after a few years away and he threw well last week in B grade,” Rangers director of coaching Darryl Luchterhand said.
“Sam (McNeice) will start
for us on Saturday night and Matt will have the job on Sunday.
“We know very little about Cubs but we’ve worked on a few things this week after coming up against a quality pitcher last week and we’ll definitely continue to improve at this new level as the season progresses.”
