New device detects ‘ghosts’

Tool picks up on what eye can’t see

PARANORMAL and historical enthusiast Katie Harvey has many tools to detect the “unknown”, but her new one is a game-changer.

Ms Harvey investigates paranormal happenings in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs and her new device is coming in handy at investigations.

It is the SLS Mobile Kinect and works by detecting human form that the eye cannot see.

It will pick up shadow formation and human form, then displays it on a screen where it appears as a stick figure.

The device displays infrared dots in a wide field of view. Whatever walks into the field of those dots is displayed on the screen as a stick figure or skeleton.

Similar devices are used during paranormal investigations around the world and is also heavily used on American television program Ghost Adventures.

Ms Harvey said it was a handy tool for those working in her industry.

“It is so much more than a stock-standard camera and can pick up on a lot more than the human eye can detect,” she said.

“The device has attracted the interest of lots of people in Toowoomba because anyone interested in the paranormal would have heard of these before.

“It is really great that I can take it on investigations around the region.

“We have just started using it but I’m excited to take it on tours as well.”

So far Ms Harvey and her team have captured at least two “ghosts” or “spirits” using the SLS Mobile Kinect.

The first was at Ms Harvey’s former home and the other was at another investigation at a house in Toowoomba.

In both instances a figure can be seen walking around on screen and Ms Harvey said the rooms were totally bare to the naked eye.

Residents can see the SLS Mobile Kinect in action at one of Ms Harvey’s paranormal tours.

This Saturday from 7.30pm she will take people on a tour of the Dalby Pioneer Park Museum and on Saturday, October 28 from 7.30pm there will be a tour of Gatton Historical Village.

Spots are limited so if you are interested message the Katie Harvey Paranormal and Historical Enthusiast Facebook page.
