Cox Plate outing an option for Folkswood

- Leo Schlink Herald Sun

IMPRESSIVE Cranbourne Cup winner Folkswood could throw down the gauntlet to Winx in the Cox Plate.

Godolphin assistant trainer Chris Connett said the raider’s prime objective for the carnival is the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (2000m) on November 11.

Connett said trainer Charlie Appleby would consider race options for Folkswood, including the Cox Plate.

“The Emirates is the main target and it’s just a matter of how we get to that point,” Connett said.

“Whether that’s a Cox Plate run behind Winx probably, that’s something Charlie has to think about.”

Folkswood firmed from $34 to joint TAB second favourite for the Cox Plate – at $18 – behind Winx, who dominates markets at $1.20.

Connett said Kidmenever had recovered from exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhaging at Caulfield on Saturday.

“He came out this morning and had a little canter around. He was bucking fresh and none the worse for the run,” Connett said.

“We’ll give him a few more days just to make sure he’s real good. Charlie hasn’t pinpointed another run yet but he’ll work something out.”

Qewy remains on target for next week’s Geelong Cup – the race he won last year before running fourth in the Melbourne Cup and winning the Sandown Cup.
