Two accused robbers held in custody

-

TWO Toowoomba teenagers accused of an armed robbery at a Drayton residence last week have been remanded in custody.

Jai Logan Hill and Zaccarra Gavin Scott, both 19, appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court each charged with entering a dwelling with intent by break while armed and in company, and robbery with actual violence while armed in company.

The charges arise from the alleged armed robbery at a Ladner St residence on October 13 in which police claim the intruders were armed with a replica pistol.

Hill’s solicitor John Davis told the court his client would not be applying for bail at this stage.

However, lawyer Shane Hough, for Scott, applied for bail to which the police objected.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Christie Mahoney said all concerned were known to each other and that the Crown case appeared strong.

Mr Hough said he was instructed that the matter arose from a purse allegedly stolen from a female acquaintance of his client and that it was the intention to have that purse returned.

His client admitted he was heavily affected by drugs at the time and that his recollection was hazy but he instructed he didn’t know anyone would have a replica pistol.

However, Acting Magistrate Roger Stark said the police claimed it was his client who had the replica pistol and that he was the first to walk inside the house.

Mr Stark refused Scott bail and remanded both teenagers in custody and adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court on December 13.
