AFTER eight years behind the counter at Groceries and More Convenience Store and nearly 25 years in business in Toowoomba, Rhonda Theodosis is calling it a day.

The shopkeeper has announced her final day of trade will be November 3.

Interestingly, she says she’s elated.

“I’ve been in business a very long time, 25 years or so, I’m just elated to be out of it,” she said.

When she took over the store eight years ago, business in Margaret Street “wasn’t very good”.

The street had a lot of empty shopfronts, but slowly business turned around, and things went well for a couple of years.

But it didn’t last, and she blames council’s management of the parking situation in Margaret Street for some of her troubles.

“The major problem is parking. There’s not enough of it,” she said.

“I went to council, I did

absolutely everything possible.

“The biggest problem is business owners and

employees are taking up every park in the free centre parking, leaving nothing left for our random customers.

“Running a business is not very good at the moment, certainly not in retail. I’m happy to be out of here.”

Mrs Theodosis said there were plenty of specials to be had before she closes down at the start of next month.
