St Andrew’s Breast Clinic aids ladies for 18 years

-

WHEN Dr Sharyn Donaldson founded the Diagnostic Breast Clinic 18 years ago, the clinic only saw a couple of patients a day.

Now the clinic sees 20 patients daily, with some travelling as far as Tamworth to receive a service.

It’s a wonderful change: more people are receiving treatment meaning it’s less likely for breast cancer to slip under the radar.

“People travel with their buddies to the clinic,” Dr Donaldson said.

“We have a lovely morning tea room and other facilities, so it’s not like our clients are waiting in cold corridors — they can settle in and enjoy themselves during the wait,” she said.

To help these travellers, the entire screening process extends for three hours.

The all-female clinic team will perform a breast examination, followed by a mammogram and ultrasound.

If needed, more comprehensive tests will follow — such as core biopsies and fine needle aspirations.

As well as spending time at the Diagnostic Breast Clinic, Dr Donaldson also works as a General Practitioner.

The clinic is supported by other General Practitioners who work closely with her.
