Big numbers at Cooby with cod moving in Coolmunda
COOBY DAM
THIS past week at Cooby has produced big numbers of fish all over the dam.
Most of fish have been caught reasonably shallow around that 11-feet of water just off the edges.
Trolling seems to the pick of the methods with plenty of yellow belly and the odd cod mixed in.
Areas like in front of the sail club and the northern arm are holding plenty of fish.
Small shallow hard bodies and Jackall TN60’s have been the lure of choice.
For the bait anglers, saltwater yabbies have been the stand out bait.
CRESSBROOK DAM
WITH this cool change and a bit of rain around this week it has slightly changed the bite at Cressbrook.
Working that deeper water will be your best bet, as this tends to be where the fish are most comfortable after large rain fall.
Locating the fish first is always a challenge at this dam.
Trolling small deep diving hard bodies is the best option.
For the lure casting anglers spoons and tailspinners have been working quite well after locating the fish.
COOLMUNDA DAM
THE cod are starting to move this week at Coolmunda with good reports coming in.
Casting large spinnerbaits such as the Bassman 4x4 have been accounting for some great fish.
Areas like the tree-line on
the eastern side of the dam have had good numbers of fish.
For the bait anglers, saltwater yabbies and worms have been picking up some great yellowbelly.
WIVENHOE DAM
EVEN with the rain around this week there has been some keen anglers out and catching plenty of fish.
Bass and yellowbelly have all been on the bite.
Once finding the fish they have been reasonably easy to catch.
Tailspinners, spoons and heavily weighted plastics have been working wonders.
Areas such as Platypus Cliffs and flats up from the old creek bed have been holding big numbers of fish.
SOMERSET DAM
WITH all the attention Somerset is getting at the
moment it is still producing some great fish.
Pelican Point, Red Rock and Bay 13 are definitely worth a look. 30-40ft seems to be the magic number.
Rolling 5/8 plastics and spoons through the fish
have been the pick of the techniques.
JUMPINPIN
AFTER the big rains this week it has pushed a lot of fish towards the mouth of the bar.
Concentrating on the deeper channels such as Kalinga Bank, Tiger Mullet Channel and Short Island will be your best bet.
Jigging soft vibes and metal jigs have been accounting for some great
jew fish.
Some great bream and flathead have also been caught in the same areas.
For the bait anglers, pilchards and saltwater yabbies will give you the best chance.
